5 Conditions that Chiropractic Care can Treat Effectively (Including some You Would Never Think of)

Did you know that over 4.5 million Canadians seek chiropractic care each year?

Chiropractic care is a natural, low cost, and effective way to relieve pain. Many are convinced, however, that Chiro is all popping and cracking and that it isn’t effective.

In reality, while Chiropractic treatments focus on spinal manipulation, they also employ soft-tissue therapy, joint mobilization and exercise therapy techniques. The combination of these treatments help stimulate your body’s natural self-healing abilities that can improve many different conditions that most would never think a Chiropractor could help with including:

1.) Tension headaches and migraines

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache. Research shows that spinal manipulation (what chiropractors use) is an effective way at relieving headaches.

You see, most headaches are related to muscle tension in your neck. This is becoming more common as we spend more time on our computer and phone screens.

A chiropractic spinal manipulation can help take stress away from the neck muscles, and reduce tension headache pain. Additionally a chiropractor may use soft-tissue therapy or exercise therapy to help you.

2.) Lower back pain

Chiropractic care is an effective way to reduce back pain

In fact, a 2019 research study showed that patients who saw a chiropractor first for their lower back pain had a 90% decreased odds of both early and long-term opioid use. (Source: https://www.acatoday.org/research/what-research-shows/)

3.) Rotator cuff pain

You can see a chiropractor even if you don’t have an issue with your back or neck. Chiropractors are very effective at treating rotator cuff pain and other injuries related to the shoulder.

They can help in a couple of ways. Direct treatment to the shoulder via soft tissue massage or joint mobilization can be very effective. Additionally, research has shown that neck or mid-back manipulation is also very helpful for shoulder pain, so your chiropractor may choose to employ that technique.

4.) Concussion rehab

Some chiropractors choose to pursue advanced training in concussion rehab. A trained chiropractor can help you improve your headache/neck pain, vestibular symptoms, visual symptoms and balance issues after a concussion.

As the neck is heavily involved in concussion symptoms, a chiropractor can be a key member of your rehab team!

5.) Lower body injuries

Chiropractors can be very helpful in the rehab of common lower body injuries such as hip bursitis, hip/knee osteoarthritis, runner’s knee, Achilles tendinopathy and many more. Chiropractors will work both locally and at the spinal level to help you get back to what you love doing.

Frequently Asked Questions

During an adjustment this popping sound is caused by pockets of air bubbles within fluid that surround and lubricate your joints. It is not the sound of a joint being put back into place.

After an adjustment your brain releases  hormones such as endorphins which can reduce pain temporarily. Additionally an adjustment stimulates joint receptors that can’t be accessed easily. This also helps to reduce your pain.

There should be little to no discomfort when you get an adjustment.
