Physiotherapists are University trained to diagnose dysfunctions and impairments arising from injury or disease, and design and implement treatment programs to help restore normal mobility, strength and functional ability. For more information, please see the Canadian Physiotherapy Association website.
At The Physio Approach, we utilize hands-on techniques involving, but not limited to, joint mobilizations/manipulations and Active Release Technique to assess and treat muscle and joint restrictions and restore movement and function. Physiotherapist Alphonsus Chan is trained in Active Release Technique and specializes in Manual Therapy, accredited by the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy.
It is part of the Physiotherapy scope of practice. Medical Acupuncture utilizes sterile, single use, fine filiform needles that are inserted into specific points on the body. These needles can be used to promote circulation of blood and oxygen, stimulate the peripheral and central nervous system, release endorphins, reduce muscle tension and also stimulate your own natural healing responses.
Integrated Dry Needling is another form of acupuncture and is a scientific approach for the treatment of myofascial and neuropathic pain. A thorough assessment is conducted whereby myofascial trigger points are located in the body. Trigger points are tight bands of muscle or fascia that produces pain either locally, or may radiate to a distant site.
Whether you are suffering from muscular tension from prolonged immobility or tightness/overuse from working out or playing sports, massage therapy can help you.
Massage therapy providers are regulated healthcare professionals registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). RMTs (Registered Massage Therapists) at The Physio Approach undergo extensive training to become proficient at providing hands on treatment techniques for muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and connective tissue. These therapeutic techniques will relieve pain, improve mobility and optimize your function.
Whether you are a professional or amateur athlete, a weekend warrior or just starting a new activity, returning to your sport at peak performance is our priority. At The Physio Approach, we understand sports and the pressure of return to play. We will get you back to playing fast, while ensuring that you can safely perform at your optimal level.
A well designed rehab program begins with a detailed history to understand your injury or concerns, overall health, and to establish your goals and expectations. This is followed by a comprehensive functional assessment of your mobility and strength.
Pre-Operative Rehab will ensure that you are ready for your surgery. Research has shown that pre-operative rehab will decrease post-surgical pain and improve recovery rates after surgery. We will focus on regaining pain free movement, strengthening and overall conditioning. We want to maximize your performance to optimize recovery.
This service remains available for those who continue to feel uncomfortable with in-person sessions. Assessments and treatments are performed through videoconferencing technology. We utilize a platform that abides by the Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), maintaining confidentiality and security of each session.
