Physiotherapy

Rehabilitation of Musculoskeletal injuries Using an Active Exercise-Based Approach.

We provide therapeutic services for numerous medical conditions, including those for acute and chronic pain, Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCB) and Motor Vehicle Act (MVA)-related conditions (whiplash), arthritis, orthopedic sports injuries and strains, and pre-and post-surgical conditions.

Physiotherapy assesses and treats musculoskeletal injury with the goal of restoring and maintaining as much physical ability as possible. Our physiotherapy services involve the assessment and treatment of your musculoskeletal injury in order to improve and maintain your functional level and physical abilities.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and their collective impact.

Some examples but not limited to; headaches, shoulder injuries, rib dysfunction, sciatica, runner’s knee, tennis/golfers elbow, carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, hip, low back and neck pain.

Chiropractic Care is a drug-free, non-invasive, hands-on practice, with a focus on manual therapy. Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and their collective impact on your overall health and wellness.

Using a number of refined skills and specialized techniques, the chiropractor will evaluate the area of complaint along with secondary areas where your discomfort could be arising from to treat the primary complaint.

Massage Therapy

Helps provide pain relief from injury, postural dysfunction, stress and discomfort rising from muscle tension, fatigue, myofascial pain, chronic pain and more.

The practice of Massage Therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain (Massage Therapy Act, 1991).

Citadel Physiotherapy provides Massage Therapy services in Halifax and Dartmouth with Registered Massage Therapists who are clinically-trained to offer effective therapeutic treatments.

Dry Needling & Acupuncture

A focused therapy used to help with pain control in acute and chronic conditions.

Various therapists at Citadel Physiotherapy offer acupuncture as a treatment modality and it maybe used as a complementary treatment to physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage therapy services.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through the skin at strategic points on your body. Acupuncture can be used to decrease pain, relax muscles, improve joint flexibility and circulation, strengthen the immune system, and regulate the nervous system. With very few side effects, acupuncture is often used to help with pain control in acute and chronic conditions.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that helps quickly regenerate damaged tissues.

Strong energy pulses are applied to the injury site and promote healing by enhancing cell metabolism and circulation. It is commonly used to treat a variety of tendinopathies and does not have any notable side effects. Most patients only require three-to-six sessions.

Therapeutic shockwaves were originally introduced as a medical treatment for eliminating kidney stones. Today, shockwave technology is used globally by millions of people to treat a wide range of conditions.

Shockwave Therapy at Citadel Physiotherapy is billed the same as a regular physiotherapy session and is available in both our Halifax and Dartmouth locations.

Bracing & Orthotics

Tailored physical aids for various areas of that body that support mobility and reduce pain.

Orthotics are intended to correct an abnormal or irregular walking pattern, by altering slightly the angles your foot makes contact with the ground.

Orthotics are custom made for each user insuring a comfortable fit and rewarding outcome.

The purpose of medical braces is to reduce the movement of specific body parts to allow them to heal after an injury or to prevent further injury or re-injury. Braces can be applied to multiple areas of the body related to mobility
