Chiropractic Care

One of the numerous treatments that Dr. Shephard uses in the treatment of Musculoskeletal injuries is Chiropractic care. There are many different chiropractic techniques and Shephard Health uses any number of them depending on your preference and the type of injury you may have.
Active Release Technique
Once the injury has been identified, then specific ART protocols are used. These non-invasive protocols combine physical manipulations and movement of the injured tissue at the site. ART soft tissue release uses precise pressure combined with active stretching. It entails identifying, isolating and targeting the affected area to break up restricting scar tissue. This break-up of scar tissue promotes greater blood flow and faster healing of the injured area. On average, treatment will take merely 15 minutes.

Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy, also known as ESWT – Extracorporeal SHOCK WAVE Therapy, is a non-invasive, non-electrical high energy sound wave that passes through the body via a handheld probe.
The directed burst of high-pressure sound waves through the skin target the desired musculoskeletal (muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve and bone) tissue, which produces a rapid increase in blood flow. This works to break down the fibrous scar tissue which builds up over time and is particularly prevalent with chronic soft tissue injuries. The body responds with increased metabolic activity around the site of the pain. This kickstarts inflammatory healing, which is necessary for tissue repair.
Graston Technique
The Graston Technique is changing the way clinicians – including athletic trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists, occupational therapists – and patients view treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries.
Originally developed by athletes, The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse system is the most technologically advanced electrotherapeutic equipment available in healthcare today and Shephard Health is currently the only clinic in Alberta to utilize its amazing healing modality.
The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse is a computer-based “Feedback Controlled” frequency-specific microcurrent system for pain control, sleep disorders, rehabilitation, accelerated healing, and wellness.
Pain, inflammation, infection, and disease all exist in an acidic cellular environment (low PH.) The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse instruments stimulate “tissue repair” at the cellular level. It utilizes a very low-voltage micro-amperage current (millionths of an ampere), which “whispers” to the affected cells putting the tissue into a more Alkaline environment (high PH.)
